Stake History[]

16 June 2019 : New Stake Division[]

The Church organized a new stake in Monrovia, Liberia on June 16th. The Gardnersville Liberia Stake was organized from a division of the Caldwell Liberia Stake and the Monrovia Liberia Stake and which consists of the Gulf Community Branch and the Barnersville, Chocolate City, Doe Community, Freeport Community, Gardnersville, and New Georgia wards. There are now five stakes in Liberia - all of which are located in Monrovia. It was created by Elder Edward Dube, General Authority Seventy, and Elder I. Raymond Egbo, an Area Seventy. It is the 27th new stake of the church created this year.

GARDNERSVILLE LIBERIA STAKE (June 16, 2019): President—James Sayee Gbelee , 45, real estate director, Gardnersville Town Hall; wife, Teata Seata Gibelee. Counselors—Daniel Aryee McCarthy Jr., 43, teacher, Miss Iola Benson; wife, Natacher Nah McCarthy. Ben Kumbly Wilson, 55, production manager, Freedom Data Processing; wife, Priscilla Sbiley Toquille Wilson.[1]

The Church has experienced unprecedented growth in Liberia during the past five years as the Church has grown from three districts to five stakes and one district, the number of congregations has increased from 24 to 52, and the number of members has increased from 8,929 to more than 13,275 at present.

Accra Ghana Temple[]

The Accra Ghana Temple is the 117th operating temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) and the 1st temple completed in Ghana, after second African temple after Johannesburg South Africa Temple (1985). The tradition of holding a youth cultural celebration before the dedication of a temple began with the dedication of the Accra Ghana Temple at the request of President Gordon B. Hinckley.
