  • 10-Apr : 1815 Eruption of Mount Tambora in modern-day Indonesia. Most powerful volcanic eruption recorded in human history. The ash from the eruption column dispersed around the world and lowered global temperatures in an event sometimes known as the Year Without a Summer in 1816. That event prompted the family of Joseph Smith to move from Vermont to Palmyra, New York, placing Joseph in close proximity to the hill where the Golden Plates lied buried.[1]
